Adventures of a Mechanical Engineer: Cairo, Egypt Edition

0.jpg

This past summer I flew halfway across the world to start my adventure as a mechanical engineer intern in Cairo, Egypt. If you do a simple search, you will find there is a difference of 7,000 miles between Dallas, Texas, and Cairo, Egypt. Definitely, the farthest I had ever been from my home state, Texas. My journey started at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport with my passport in hand, and military backpack on my back.

I was very eager to learn and gain new experiences. I was super excited to visit a new continent and to learn more about my degree. My internship was at EFE Egypt Conveyor and Stainless Steel Equipment. My team's assignment: develop a refurbishment plan for the Hygiene Entrance Unit (pictured above).

I worked directly with the engineers and technicians at the shop. I, also, ended up being the team lead. My team was not your typical intern team. My team had students from all over the world who spoke different native languages and were from different cultures. English was a second language for the majority of our team (students and company representatives).

I used Solid Works to plan the designs of the sheet metal for the Hygiene Entrance Unit.

Our team's final report was:

  • Bill of Materials

  • Cost of Materials

  • Supplier Options

  • Preliminary Draft Design

I learned so much from the internship experience. I want to thank EFE Egypt Conveyor and Stainless Steel Equipment for providing my team to the opportunity to learn about the Hygiene Entrance Unit.

I picked up valuable skills such as: CAD design, BOM generation, and team presentation, among much more. I will always remember my time in Cairo, Egypt.

Cairo, Egypt - A city that never sleeps.
